A Land for All of Us

Frequently asked questions,

WHAT IS AVINENÇA?

AVINENÇA is an alliance of land stewardship associations that work in the Valencian Community and is composed of more than 40 entities. Avinenca's aim is to help land stewardship associations, promote best practice in preserving the environment by providing training, technical assistance, awareness of outside organisations that can help members etc .

WHAT IS A LAND STEWARDSHIP ASSOCIATION?

When a group of members of the public decide among themselves to become responsible for a particular aspect of land conservation they can form a Land Stewardship Group

In fact, land stewardship includes a lot of different activities but in all of them tend to have similarities, in as much as:-

(1) the actions usually take place on private properties.

(2) these actions are achieved between the land owner and a land stewardship association by reaching a voluntary agreement.

(3) these agreements are always made to preserve  the values associated with the piece of land involved (ecological, landscape, ethnological, cultural values, etc.).

SO IS THE  GROUP ‘FRIENDS OF AVINENÇA’ OFFICIALLY A LAND STEWARDSHIP ASSOCIATION?

There are no official land stewardship (LS) associations… If you are involved in a LS project you are a LS association, if you belong to a network like Avinença you will probably be a LS association or act sometimes as a LS association

WHAT IS A ‘LAND FOR ALL PROJECT’?

This project is about connecting Avinença and its members/associations with the community of foreign residents in the La Marina area. Why? Because in their home countries land stewardship is a well-known tool and has existed for many years. There is much more of an understanding of conservation and it is regarded as the ‘norm’. These citizens also tend to be more sensitive to environmental problems.

A Land for All Project tries to involve those interested in land conservation through a project of land stewardship (e.g. The Senillar Project in Moraira). In return, Avinença arranges for those who are interested in the Valencian territory to see the area through the eyes of Avinença’s experts, taking them to places of great interest, to which they would not normally have access. In this way the Friends of Avinença hope to recruit people who will be interested in becoming involved in the conservation project of El Senillar, and similar activities.
